The Trinity Christian School Band program is comprised of four different groups which build upon one another as well as the skills taught in the grammar school music classes. These band classes seek to be an extension, fulfillment, and application of the Tools of Learning found in the various levels of the Trivium.

In Philippians 4:8 it says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”  As we seek to be more like our Creator, we as Christians should be concerned with the good, the true, and the beautiful.  As R.C. Sproul says, the impetus for Christian art and music is excellence.  If it is good music, it bears witness to our Creator.

Our overarching purpose is to fulfill the admonition of the first catechism, “The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” As we do this, we seek to take our students from a solid foundation in music in the grammar stage and extend it through the logic and rhetoric stages in the Trinity Band program.

 

Beginner Band 

Beginner Band consists of grammar school students in the fifth grade who have no prior experience playing a band instrument. Students will find the skills taught in K5 – 4th Grade music classes very helpful in the transition to learning how to play a band instrument. The beginner band will perform in the school concerts. At the end of their first year in Beginner Band, students will be able to play five one-octave scales and arpeggios from memory and have success in sight reading simple exercises and songs on their instrument.

Intermediate Band

Intermediate Band is comprised of late grammar school students in sixth grade who have had one year of experience playing a band instrument. Intermediate Band students are offered the opportunity to audition for District Honor Band and Alabama All-State Band. The Intermediate Band performs at the school concerts and periodically participates in regional competitions.

Advanced Band

Advanced Band consists of logic/rhetoric school students in grades 7-12. Advanced Band students are offered the opportunity to audition for District Honor Band and Alabama All-State Band. The Advanced Band has performed at the High Note Festival, Atlanta, GA; OrlandoFest and Festival Disney, Orlando, FL; Music in the Parks Festival, Williamsburg, VA where they were adjudicated and awarded superior ratings. The Advanced Band performs at the school concerts as well as other events throughout the community.

Jazz Band

Jazz Band consists of select students in grades 8-12. To be a member of the Jazz Band, membership is also required in Advanced Band. The Jazz Band has performed at High Note Festival, Atlanta, GA; OrlandoFest, Orlando, FL and Festival Disney, Orlando, FL where they were adjudicated and awarded superior ratings. The Jazz Band performs at the school concerts as well as other events throughout the community, such as Opelika Rotary Club and the Trinity Benefit Gala.
